A Few of Our Most Popular Cajun Creations

We offer a wonderful variety of different types of food to choose from at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina in Osage Beach. That being said, we seem to be best-known for serving the best Cajun food at the Lake of the Ozarks

That's not a big surprise, because we do our very best to recreate the amazing flavors and recipes you would find on a trip to New Orleans. Authentic rubs and spices direct from Louisiana are even used in our cooking. You'll find lots and lots of great menu items to try when you visit our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront restaurant & bar, and here's a peek at 10 of our most popular items to get you started.

Crab Cake Pasta
This dish has 2 delicious handmade shrimp and lump Blue crab cakes placed on a bed of fresh fettuccine. All of that is smothered in a spectacular seafood cream sauce.

Big Easy Shrimp
Large Gulf shrimp are sauteed in butter, white wine, and garlic with lemon, rosemary, and our special Cajun seasonings. This tasty creation is available in both an appetizer and a dinner serving.

Shrimp-N-Grits
Large shrimp are sauteed along with Andouille sausage, smoked bacon, onions, and mushrooms and then served over a bed of our homemade Cheddar Cheese and Jalapeno Grits. Mmmm boy!

Crawfish-N-Shrimp Etouffee
Two favorite Cajun ingredients, crawfish and shrimp, are smothered in a rich, creamy etouffee sauce. This dish also contains savory Creole vegetables and is served with rice.

Smothered Catfish
This takes our crawfish etouffee to a whole new level by pouring it over a fried or blackened catfish filet and a bed of rice.

Creole Quesadilla
Start your meal with this creative appetizer. We take a bountiful blend of Andouille sausage, crawfish, and shrimp, then add to it pepper jack cheese and sauteed peppers and onions inside a grilled tortilla.

Po Boy Sandwiches
You can't have a proper Cajun menu without a few Po Boys on it, and we have 4 of them! Choose either big, deep-fried Gulf oysters, hand-breaded Gulf shrimp, or fried or blackened catfish paired with our own homemade Cajun mayo, lettuce, and tomato on French bread. Last, but certainly not least, you can also choose smoked Cajun sausage with our homemade remoulade sauce, shredded lettuce, and tomato.

Plantation Wrap
Great big Cajun flavor, all wrapped up into one neat hand-held package! We take a sun-dried tomato tortilla and fill it to the brim with Andouille sausage, Big Easy Shrimp, and red-beans and rice to make this full-bodied wrap.

New Orleans Medley
With this amazing menu item, we offer a plateful of 4 of our signature entrees! You get that creamy Crawfish Etouffee, rich Jambalaya, Red Beans and Rice, and a half link of our Andouille sausage. The many tastes of New Orleans summed up on one plate!

Beignets
This French Quarter favorite is the perfect way to end your meal, but if you'd prefer to begin your meal with it, go for it! (We include this tasty treat on our appetizer menu too!) Also known as Louisiana's doughnut, this perfectly deep-fried pastry is tossed in powdered sugar and served with our house-made sweet raspberry sauce.

That's only the beginning! As we mentioned earlier, we've got a diverse menu filled with all types of different dishes for you to enjoy at our waterfront bar & restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks. Many are Cajun-inspired, but you'll also find quite a few delicious dishes that aren't. There's something scrumptious for everyone at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina. Grab the gang and come in to taste it for yourself!

Book Our Vacation House Rental for Fall at the Lake of the Ozarks

Currently, our Lake of the Ozarks vacation rental houses are booked up for Shootout Weekend and Labor Day Weekend, but the fun at the lake doesn't end after the Labor Day holiday. Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina stays open well into the fall because not only are there still all kinds of things to do in the lake area at that time, but the view when the leaves begin turning is something incredible to experience.

Another bonus to visiting the Lake of the Ozarks in the fall is the fact that the pace is a little slower and more laid back than you regularly find mid-Summer. (Unless, of course, you're here for Bikefest, September 12-16, 2018. Things get crowded that weekend, but oh, so much fun!) If you're considering a fall vacation at the Lake of the Ozarks, the following reviews from some of this summer's visitors will convince you that you want to stay right here with us.

The Glass House
The Glass House offers 1,500 square feet of living space and can easily house up to 8 guests. These reviews were taken from the Glass House booking page

"Wonderful long weekend!
We spent a long weekend at The Glass House with two other couples and had a wonderful time. The house was very clean and decor was perfect for a lake house get away. The boys loved playing the arcade game while waiting for the ladies to get ready to head out for an adventure. Location was perfect as just across the street from Shorty Pants Lounge where we were able to stop in for a convenient and tasty meal! I highly recommend this property for your vacation!"
~Kirsten P.

"We loved the Glass House.
My family and I stayed during the week over Independence Day. Ashley was great, answered all of our questions (believe me we texted a lot!) There are some pool noodles there, plenty of towels and we were excited to learn we could use a couple of paddleboards and a kayak. Bill down at the marina was super friendly, we enjoyed free popsicles and got to use their pump to inflate our giant floaties. Dinner at Shorty Pants was delicious, my husband is from New Orleans and he agrees their Cajun food was great! The master bedroom upstairs is the smallest room and there was no place in that room to put clothes (no closet or dresser) but the bathroom attached is a good trade off. The other two bedrooms are good sized both with a closet and one had a dresser as well. All the rooms had a nice lake view. Even though they had a same day turn around on check out she still gave us an extra 30 minutes to check out. Believe me with a 5 year old and 10 month old that was a HUGE help. Fun decor, had all the necessities and super nice host. Thanks for a great trip!"
~Nida D.

"House on lake - Osage Beach
Great place. Spacious and just across from Shorty Pants. Easy access to all. Quality throughout from linens, to dishware, and furniture. Very nice place to stay and the owner was great with quick answers to any questions."
~Becky Y.

The Red House
The Red House boasts 3,400 square feet of living space and can sleep up to 16 guests. These reviews were taken from the Red House booking page.

"Perfect House for Large Group/Family
This house has everything you need; plenty of space, screened in porch with a huge table for hanging out in the evenings, enough bathrooms for all guests, TWO kitchens, and a great deck (you can listen to the live music from Shorty Pants which we loved). We will definitely stay there again, thank you for making my wife's 30th birthday a great weekend!!!"
~Dan G.

"Great Property!!
We had a wonderful stay at this property. The house was clean, had plenty of beds, bathrooms, towels, kitchen items, etc. the view was beautiful & convenient to the restaurant and marina. Would highly recommend!! Thanks so much!!"
~Dawn P.

"Beautiful home - can't wait to go back.
This home is stunning & was absolutely perfect for 16 of us this past weekend. We had so much fun and Ashley was so accommodating to all of our needs from the get-go. Can't wait to book it again next summer. Thank you Ashley for everything!!!"
~Aubrey L.

"Everything we were wanting and more!
Right off the bat, Ashley was quick to respond and super helpful with anything we needed. The house was so spacious and clean. We had 11 people stay here and we all had more than enough space. It was so nice being as close as we were to the Shorty Pants Marina too. I would definitely stay here again and I would recommend it to anyone!"
~Jillian L.

Ever Wonder Why It's Called a "Po Boy?" Wonder No More...

One of our most popular sandwiches at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina, the Po Boy, is a traditional dish that is expected to be on the menu of the best Cajun restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks. It seems like a strange name to refer to a sandwich by, so we decided to look into the reason someone decided to call it that in the first place.

What is a Po Boy?
For those of you that may be unfamiliar with what a Po Boy sandwich is, here is the basic explanation. This delicacy is a traditional sandwich from Louisiana that normally consists of meat, often fried seafood. It is served on French bread and is usually garnished with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. The non-seafood versions may be served with Creole mustard in place of the mayo.

Why the Name?
Apparently, the official origin of the name "Po Boy" is unknown, but there is a popular local theory. In 1929, during a four-month-long strike against a streetcar company, men on the picket line were given free sandwiches from a local New Orleans restaurant.

The restaurant owners, Benny and Clovis Martin, were former conductors for the streetcar company and wanted to support their former colleagues. Workers at the restaurant jokingly referred to the strikers as "poor boys," and after a while, everyone began referring to the sandwiches themselves by that name. Of course, with a Louisiana accent, the word "poor" came out as "po."

Historians find that theory suspicious. First of all, the story didn't come out until 40 years after the fact, plus prior to 1969, the Martin brothers had told people they created the po-boy for farmers, dock workers, and other "poor boys" who often ate at their original location near the French Market. Whether or not the local theory is true, it is a good story.

Po Boys at Shorty Pants
Our waterfront restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks proudly offers 4 different Po Boy Sandwiches on our Creole-inspired menu. Each one comes with your choice of a side dish.

Catfish Po Boy
Southern-fried catfish with our homemade Cajun mayo, lettuce, and tomato. It also tastes great blackened!

Oyster Po Boy
Big Gulf oysters deep-fried golden brown on French bread with lettuce, tomato, and homemade Cajun mayo.

Shrimp Po Boy
Hand-breaded Gulf shrimp, lettuce, tomato, and our house-made Cajun mayo.

Andouille Sausage Po Boy
Smoked Cajun sausage and our homemade remoulade sauce served with shredded lettuce and tomato.

The Po Boy Sandwich is just one of the many delicious Cajun creations that we serve here at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina. We use rubs and spices direct from Louisiana in our cooking to create authentic Creole cuisine that will make you think you're in the middle of the French Quarter instead of the middle of Missouri! The next time that you are in the lake area and it's close to mealtime, swing on by and give our Lake of the Ozarks Cajun restaurant a try. Your taste buds will thank you!

We LOVE Hurricanes! (The Drink, not the Storm...)

One of the most popular drinks served in New Orleans is the hurricane, so of course, our Lake of the Ozarks Cajun restaurant offers that delicious drink on our menu. As a matter of fact, Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina has also created a few different variations of the classic cocktail so that you have more than one to choose from.

Hurricane Cocktail Origins
A hurricane, in general, is a sweet drink made with rum, fruit juices, and syrup or grenadine. One reason that hurricanes are so very popular in New Orleans is that they were invented there.

In the 1940's, New Orleans tavern owner Pat O'Brien was looking for a way to get rid of some of the less popular rums on his shelf. Local distributors had forced him to include these in his order before he was able to get a few cases of the more popular liquors his customers preferred.

Once O'Brien came up with a mixture of the rums that he was happy with, he poured the new cocktail into a glass shaped similar to a hurricane lamp and gave it away to the sailors that came into his bar. The drink was a hit, and it has been a mainstay in the French Quarter ever since.

The name hurricane possibly came from the shape of the glass used to serve it. O'Brien's bar allegedly started out as a speakeasy, and the password to get in was "storm's  brewin'." That fact also makes naming his drink after a storm very fitting!

Hurricanes are also incredibly popular in the Bahamas, but those are not made the same way as the New Orleans version. If you order a hurricane in the islands, expect a much different flavor. Their drink is made with coffee liqueur, 151 rum, Irish cream, and Grand Marnier.

Shorty Pants Hurricanes
As we mentioned above, in addition to the classic hurricane that you might be familiar with, we've come up with some recipes of our own. These still contain rum and fruit juices, but a few more ingredients give each one a tasty twist.

New Orleans Hurricane
Cruzan Dark Rum, Cruzan Light Rum, DeKuyper Peachtree Schnapps, orange juice, pineapple juice, sour, and Shorty Pants Punch.

Rainbow Sherbert Hurricane
Cruzan Coconut Rum, DeKuyper Peachtree Schnapps, DeKuyper Sour Apple Pucker, all mixed with orange juice, pineapple juice, and cranberry juice.

Spring Hurricane
Cruzan Dark Rum, Light Rum, Coconut Rum, Chambord, orange juice, and pineapple juice.

Freedom Hurricane
Light Rum, DeKuyper Blue Curacao, Korbel Brandy, sour, orange juice, and Shorty Pants Punch.

The next time you stop by for a plate full of the best Cajun food at the Lake of the Ozarks, consider trying this classic Cajun drink to go along with it. We're happy to mix one up for you fresh here at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina, and we're willing to bet it will be one of your favorite new drinks!
