Join Us for the 20th Annual Spring Harbor Hop - May 6, 2017

Are you ready? We sure are! It is time once again for one of the best annual events at the Lake of the Ozarks - Spring Harbor Hop! Saturday, May 6, 2017 you can join Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina, along with over 40 other waterfront bars and restaurants, for the first big (non-fishing) boating event of the season. Poker, prizes, live music, great food, incredible drinks, awesome people, and the chance to cruise the gorgeous Lake of the Ozarks.

What Is Harbor Hop?
For those of you that have not had the pleasure of "harbor hopping" in the past, this 1-day boating event consists of collecting a complete, and hopefully winning, poker hand, one card at a time, from participating waterfront locations. Some of the checkpoints open as early as 9:00 am, and the final card must be drawn and turned in before 7:00 pm at the close of the event to be eligible for prizes. This particular event is only 1 day long, but we highly suggest spending the entire weekend in the lake area.

Stay In Our Vacation Rentals
Shorty Pants has two of the best vacation rentals at the Lake of the Ozarks available within walking distance of our waterfront restaurant and marina. If you book your stay right away, you can stay with us over Harbor Hop weekend. (Don't let someone else snatch that date out from under you!)

Our rental houses have a courtesy dock available upon request, and there are 2 boat ramps nearby. We've partnered with BomBay Boat Rental Company in case you need to rent a watercraft for the weekend, and if you're bringing your own boat or waverunner, Shorty Pants Marina has covered boat slips available, plus a full-service gas dock and fully stocked C-store for all of your boating needs.

The Glass House can sleep up to 8 guests in it's 1,500 square feet of living space with 2 queen size beds, 1 full bed, and a sleeper sofa in the living room. There are 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, a 44-foot deck, and an unbelievable panoramic lake view.

The Red House can sleep up to 13 guests in it's 3,400 square feet of living space including 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, a full kitchen, 2 incredible decks, and that same amazing panoramic lake view. You can book both directly from the Shorty Pants website.

Harbor Hop Rules
Rule #1 is to HAVE FUN! It's a great day to get out and take advantage of the amazing lake and all it has to offer. You may sign up for the Spring Harbor Hop at any of the checkpoints, where you will also collect your first card. There is a $20 optional donation per 7-card hand, and players are welcome to enter more than once.

You will collect the other 6 cards to complete your poker hand at any of the checkpoints on the list. The hand will be turned in at your 7th stop, but for an additional $5, you may draw a bonus 8th card to increase your chances for a better hand. To be eligible for prizes, all hands must be turned in by 7:00 pm on May 6, 2017. Winners will be notified by mail.

The Payout
What exactly is up for grabs for all the winners? The prize amounts are based on the amount of entry donations collected and will be paid out in the form of gift certificates. The prize money is divided up among the following categories:

  • 1st Place: 10%
  • 2nd Place: 9%
  • 3rd Place: 8%
  • 4th Place: 7%
  • 5th-10th Places: 2% each
  • 4 Worst Hands: 4% each
  • Random Drawing for 10 Hands: 2% each
  • THE BONUS - Section Winners: If you draw all 7 of your cards within 1 of the 4 sections designated on the Harbor Hop map, you will be named that section's winner.

Start Hopping at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina
We'll have our checkpoint up and running at 11:00 am when we open the kitchen and both bars. Start out with an early lunch here, hit a few checkpoints (don't miss our sister restaurant, Dog Days Bar & Grill), then join us when you're done hopping for the rest of the evening.

We've got some amazing entertainment lined up for you throughout the day with both Steven Moore and Bartholomew playing on our outdoor stage. You'll be well fed, refreshed, and thoroughly entertained the entire time you're with us here at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina. The Intriguing History of New Beer's Eve

The obscure holiday of "New Beer's Eve" may be a new one to you, but when our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront bar heard about it, we simply had to know more. This sounds like the perfect excuse to sit on our deck overlooking the lake and enjoy a nice, cold, refreshing brew at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina

Ending Prohibition
New Beer's Eve is categorized as an unofficial holiday which is celebrated every April 6. It marks the beginning of the end of prohibition in the United States. The 18th Amendment in 1920 banned the sale of both beer and alcohol for over a decade. This didn't really work out too well for the government, because the ban was widely ignored by most. They still found ways to get it, yet tons of money was lost in potential tax dollars.

On March 23, 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act into law, which made it legal to sell beer and alcohol in the U.S.A with a low alcohol content. After signing the document, President Roosevelt made his famous remark, "I think this would be a good time for a beer.

The Wait Is Over
He, along with everyone else, had to wait a little while longer, because the law did not officially go into effect until April 7, 1933. People everywhere lined up outside of taverns, distilleries, and breweries on April 6, eagerly awaiting the chance to legally purchase beer at midnight. Someone cleverly referred to the gathering as "New Beer's Eve," and a new unofficial holiday was born! Actually, we've squeezed two holidays out of it, because April 7 is celebrated as "National Beer Day" too!

Missouri's Famous Clydesdales Appear
A crowd of what is said to be around 25,000 gathered outside of St. Louis's own Anheuser-Busch Brewery for the first New Beer's Eve. At 12:01 am on April 7, sirens and steam whistles sounded while dozens of Anheuser-Busch trucks departed the brewery, all carrying their first beer shipments in 13 years.

This same day, the Budweiser Clydesdales made their first appearance. August A Busch, Jr. presented the hitch to his father, August, Sr. as a gift in honor of the important day. After carrying cases of beer in a special journey down St. Louis's Pestalozzi Street for the locals, Busch, Sr. sent the entire horse-drawn beer wagon, along with the horses, by train on a journey that eventually made its way to the White House with a delivery of beer especially for President Roosevelt.
