Spicy Foods Will Warm You Up & They're Good For You Too

One way to warm up this time of year is to eat foods that have a bit of a spicy kick. Not only will a "hot" meal from Shorty Pants Lounge feel good and taste great, but it's healthy for you too! Some of the items within the best Cajun food at the Lake of the Ozarks contain peppers and other spicy ingredients for a touch of heat, and today we've got a few reasons to share with you why that can do a body good.

Heart Health
The effects on a body from "bad" cholesterol can be lowered with chili peppers. They increase the rate that the cholesterol is broken down and also increase blood flow, which improves heart function and helps to lower blood pressure.

Cancer Prevention
The capsaicin found in spicy foods has the ability to kill some cancer and leukemic cells according to the American Association for Cancer Research. Capsaicin can also create a reaction that lowers the risk of tumors.

Stress Relief
Spicy foods encourage your body to produce extra "feel-good" hormones. These endorphins are the body's natural pain medication and can reduce anxiety, stress, and the effects of depression.

Eases Congestion
If the fall weather change has you waking up stuffy in the morning, a spicy meal can help with that too. The heat thins mucus to ease the discomfort from clogged nasal passages. This can also be helpful when it comes to respiratory problems like bronchitis and even asthma.

Weight Loss
Studies have been done that prove capsaicin also gives your metabolism a boost. The effect can last up to 20 minutes after you've eaten. Spicy foods have also been known to make you feel full and reduce cravings for salty, sweet, and fatty foods.

In addition to spicy peppers, our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront restaurant also uses authentic rubs and spices direct from Louisiana that can add to the amount of heat you have with your meal. We don't serve anything that would be considered "burn your mouth hot," but if you want a little extra heat, we can definitely hook you up! Here are a few choices from our menu that you could pair with an extra-spicy Cajun Bloody Mary to really get that capsaicin working!

Alligator Eggs
Baked jalapeno peppers stuffed with a 4-cheese blend and wrapped in Prosciutto, served with a sweet raspberry sauce.

Smoked Wings
The wings themselves aren't hot, but our Extra Hot wing sauce brings the heat!

VooDoo Chicken
A spicy Marinara blackened chicken breast is placed over a bed of sauteed onions, peppers, and rice.

Creole Quesadilla
Andouille sausage, crawfish, and shrimp are the staples, with Pepper Jack cheese, sauteed peppers & onions to bring out the flavor.

Baja Burger
Our blackened classic burger topped off with Pepper Jack cheese and jalapenos.

Blackened Chicken Nachos
Tortilla chips piled high and smothered in our Turbodog cheese sauce, then topped with spicy chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, green onions, and jalapenos, plus served with salsa and sour cream.

Hungry for something spicy now? Head on over to Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina and we'll cook it up for you. Just let us know how hot you like it, and we'll see what we can do!

Join Us To Honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Wed, Oct. 25, 2017

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this year our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront restaurant has decided to do something special to raise both funds and awareness for it. Please join us on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 , and the tips you leave our participating Shorty Pants Lounge servers that day will be donated to the cause!

Tip-Outs For Cancer
The generous and caring staff at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina have decided to set aside a day's worth of their tips to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. On October 25 from 11 am - 9 pm, the tips from select server tip jars will be donated to the Lake Regional Cancer Center on behalf of the participating employees of the Barrett Restaurant Group. That means that the money you "tip-out" will go toward helping women right here in our community.

You're welcome to come in for lunch or dinner that day, or you can simply stop by for a quick drink or snack. As a matter of fact, even if you don't have time to stay and just want to leave a tip to help out, that's awesome too! Every little bit helps. (We do hope you can stick around and hang out with us while you're here though!) We've even got some cool Shorty Pants gear you can pick up if you need some pink to wear.

A Few Facts About Breast Cancer
We found the following facts about breast cancer at www.NationalBreastCancer.org to give you a better idea about how this cancer affects people here in the United States. Don't forget that this is a worldwide problem, so the numbers are even larger, but there is hope on the horizon.

  • 1 in 8 women in the United states will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
  • Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.
  • Breast cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death among women.
  • Each year it is estimated that over 252,710 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,500 will die.
  • Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,470 men will be diagnosed with it and approximately 460 will die each year.
  • On average, every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer and 1 woman will die of it every 13 minutes.
  • Over 3.3 million breast cancer survivors are alive in the United States today!
That last fact is a wonderful positive fact to focus on, and the money donated will help to make the number of survivors grow even larger. Due to better screening processes and early detection, increased awareness, and the continually improving treatment options, death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1990. It will be an extra-special day for us here at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Fall Harbor Hop is Saturday, October 14! Who's Joining Us?

Autumn isn't too late to get out on that gorgeous lake! (Especially with the incredible weather we've mostly been blessed with this season.) It's time to get on the water and join us for one of the best annual events at the Lake of the Ozarks - The 32nd Annual Fall Harbor Hop on Saturday, October 14. You can swing by the best waterfront bar & restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks from 11 am - 7 pm to pick up a card for your poker hand, and hopefully you'll stick around with us after the hop is over too. If it's a chilly evening, we've got that cozy outdoor fireplace to gather around, plus the roomy indoor dining area and bar. If you happen to stop by between 3-7 pm, you can even enjoy the talented Steven Moore on stage.

Don't forget that you can also get everything you need in our cove for a day full of boating at the best marina at the Lake of the Ozarks - Shorty Pants Marina!
