Of course, the best Cajun food at the Lake of the Ozarks is just a part of all of the wonderful things you'll find at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marins. It's been a while since last fall, so here's a quick reminder of what to expect when you join us once again this season.

Amazing Cajun Food & Drinks

The folks in the kitchen are anxious to start cooking up all of your Cajun favorites this season! You'll be able to join us for lunch and dinner 7 days a week beginning daily at 11:00 am. Get your taste buds ready for plates full of Crawfish-N-Shrimp Etouffee, Po Boy Sandwiches, our World Famous Crab Cakes, and a whole lot more! (Is your stomach rumbling yet just thinking about it?)

Our bartenders will have their own tastes of New Orleans for you at the bar too. That Cajun Bloody Mar is an irresistible classic around here and the many varieties of Hurricanes we've created will keep your thirst quenched in the most marvelous of ways!

Beyond the Cajun Cooking

Although we're widely known as the best Cajun restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks, our talented chefs are not limited to just that. The menu also features savory steaks, fresh salads, delicious seafood, incredible sandwiches, wraps, and burgers, plus a fantastic kids' menu.

As for drinks, you'll find all of your favorite frozen cocktails to enjoy while dining lakeside. We also carry a wonderful variety of ice-cold beers and an amazing wine list. No matter what you are thirsty for, our fully-stocked bar can take care of it!

Incredible Live Music

The outdoor stage at Shorty Pants Lounge hosts the best live music at the Lake of the Ozarks. Discover a wonderful mix of soothing sounds to enjoy during dinner and on into a lovely lake evening along. The fantastic bands we host are very likely to have you on the dance floor all night long. The finishing touches are being put onto our 2021 music schedule but once it's complete, you can always find an updated list on our website.

Full-Service Gas Dock & Marina

Just down the dock from the restaurant, you'll find the best gas dock & marina at the Lake of the Ozarks. In addition to being a great place to fuel your boat, Shorty Pants Marina also contains a fully-stocked convenience store with all the things you might need for a day out on the water. When you're ready for a pit stop during your day of boating, this is also where you'll find the cleanest restrooms on the lake. (A very important fact to know!)

If you're in need of a place to park your boat or personal watercraft while you're in town, we have covered dock slips available from sizes 14x36 up to 20x56. Marina amenities include showers, washer/dryers, free WiFi and electric, free ice, and gated parking. If you're interested, please give us a call to find out what is available.

Waterfront House Rentals

Located right next door to Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina are two of the best waterfront vacation rental houses at the Lake of the Ozarks. (BTW, these are both available to rent year-round, even when Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina is closed for the season!)

The Glass House features 1,500 square feet of living space and can sleep up to 8 guests comfortably. The Red House offers 3,400 square feet to enjoy and can house up to 16 guests. How To Get You Shorty Pants Lounge "Fix" in the Off-Season

Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina in Osage Beach may be closed until spring 2021, but that doesn't mean you have to do without us until then! As a member of the Barrett Restaurant Group, we are able to offer the best catering at the Lake of the Ozarks year-round. Oh, and if you miss the atmosphere and incredible lake view, well, a stay in one of our vacation rental houses can fix that.

Shorty Pants Catering

The Barrett Restaurant Group, which is made up of Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina, Dog Days Bar & Grill, and Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, caters to the lake area year-round. With such a diverse group of restaurants represented, a wide variety of food choices can be made available. This includes the best Cajun food at the Lake of the Ozarks that you've gotten used to enjoying at Shorty Pants Lounge.

We are able to accommodate groups of all sizes and with enough advance notice, can even load up our delivery vans and deliver the food directly to you. If you are also in need of a venue to host your meeting or event, arrangements can be made to use the private room (complete with a cozy fireplace) at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. In some cases, we can even open up Shorty Pants or Dog Days in the off-season to host your gathering. We can even help you book the entertainment!

All catering is done on a first-come, first-served basis so the sooner you reserve a spot on our calendar, the better. Reach us at 573-348-4244 or call the Boot at 573-348-2277 to make arrangements. All dates need to be booked in advance with our sales office and a final guest count is needed one week before the event.

Lakeside Winter Vacation

While many people miss the food from Shorty Pants Lounge during our off-season, quite a few of them also miss being able to enjoy the fantastic lake view that comes along with that food. The good news for all of them is that our waterfront vacation house rentals at the Lake of the Ozarks, located right next door to our restaurant & marina, are open year-round.

Although Shorty Pants is in "hibernation" all winter, the lake area has plenty of excitement happening, including holiday shopping, New Year's celebrations, romantic weekends, the Lake of the Ozarks Mardi Gras Pub Crawl, and much more. Both of our lakefront vacation houses are located in Osage Beach off Hwy. KK on the 21-mile marker. A courtesy dock is also available upon request for your boating needs.

The first of our two vacation house rentals, the Glass House contains 1,500 square feet of living space with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and the ability to sleep up to 8 comfortably. Here you'll find all the comforts of home, including a washer and dryer, full kitchen, and a gas grill on the 44-foot deck.

Click here to learn more about the Glass House and book your stay.

Next door to the Glass House, the Red House also contains all the comforts of home needed to enjoy a relaxing stay plus the same gorgeous lake views. This property is larger at 3,400 square feet of living space and has two 44-foot decks.

There are 5 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, and this house can accommodate up to 16 guests. There is also an apartment-like space detached from the house that we call the "Love Shack.

Click here to learn more about the Red House and book your stay.

So as you can see, even though our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront restaurant & bar is closed for the season, you can still enjoy many of the things that you love about Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina all year long! The next time you miss us, plan a gathering we can cater or pick a date to vacation at the Lake of the Ozarks. It really can be as simple as that!

Our 2020 Season Ends This Saturday, Nov. 21 - Come & Get It!

It's been a strange year but we still managed to have a great season here at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina in Osage Beach and a big part of that was you! That's why it would make us extremely happy to see each and every one of you at least one more time before we close down for the season. Make plans to come on by in the next few days for one last plateful of the best Cajun food at the Lake of the Ozarks before it's all gone until next spring.

Last Day of the 2020 Season:
Saturday, November 21

Don't waste any time being sad about our waterfront bar & restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks heading into the off-season. Instead, jump in your car or boat and get over here ASAP before our winter break begins.

We'll still be opening daily at 11:00 am now through Saturday, November 21, 2020. That means you've got a few more days to swing by for lunch, dinner, drinks, and maybe even a couple of between-meal-snacks before the kitchen and bars shut it all down!

All Your Favorite Foods

The best Cajun restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks is where you'll find the most authentic Creole cuisine in mid-Missouri. We use rubs and spices direct from Louisiana and recipes that would make any New Orleans native proud. If you close your eyes, you just might think you're actually in the French Quarter instead of Missouri!

Of course, we are located in Osage Beach, so amazing Cajun isn't the only food we cook up to make your mouth water. You can order fresh seafood, savory steaks, signature sandwiches, juicy burgers, salads, wraps, tacos, and a whole lot more! For all of you return diners, you know the wonderful things to expect out of our kitchen. If you've never been here before, well, you'd better hurry on over soon!

The Most Delicious Drinks Too

Our incredible menu items are a big draw but the delicious drinks our talented bartenders mix up on a daily basis are an excellent reason to make a trip to Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina too. The Cajun Bloody Marys and freshly muddled Mojitos are very popular around here. Even though it's colder outside, one last frozen drink is tempting too.

To truly bring about the spirit of New Orleans, we offer an amazing classic Hurricane plus a long list of specialty Hurricanes that are all our own. The bar also carries an impressive wine list and the most refreshing beers in town. Come on in for a drink and raise a glass to another outstanding season!

Shorty Pants in the Off-Season

If you simply cannot wait until next spring to get a mouthful of your favorite Cajun dishes, hire the best caterers at the Lake of the Ozarks for all of your holiday parties and winter events during the off-season!

Year-round, the Barrett Restaurant Group can cater all of your events, large and small, with the flavors of Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina, Dog Days Bar & Grill, and Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. Private event rooms are also available to rent at all three restaurants.

If you miss our gorgeous lake view, book a stay in one of our two Lake of the Ozarks vacation rental houses and have it all to yourself! (Well, you and our neighbors, but they don't mind sharing that view!)

The Glass House can easily host up to 8 guests and the Red House offers enough room for up to 16 people. Since they are right next door to Shorty Pants, they're centrally located to many of the best attractions, events, and shopping at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Help us give Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina the seasonal send-off it deserves! If we get more of that incredible warm weather in the next few days, we can hang out on the deck enjoying the awesome lake view. For the colder moments, we've got a cozy fireplace outside and plenty of seating indoors as well where it's nice and warm. These last few days at our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront Cajun restaurant & bar are going to be a lot better if we get to spend them with you!

Come & Get Your Cajun On... Before It's All Gone!

The 2020 season for many lake area spots has already come to an end but here at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina, since the weather has been so incredible so far this fall, we're sticking around as long as we can! We'll be closing the doors of our waterfront restaurant & bar at the Lake of the Ozarks at some point this month, but for right now we're still open 7 days a week starting at 11:00 am.

Of course, once this season is finally over, you won't be able to get a plateful of the best Cajun food at the Lake of the Ozarks for a few months. Here's a delicious reminder of some of the amazing Creole-inspired dishes you need to come in for at least one more time before you have to wait until spring 2021.

New Orleans Medley

For the diner that has trouble deciding on which dish to order, our New Orleans Medley offers you four of our very best dishes, all on one plate! You get creamy Crawfish Etouffee, rich Jambalaya, savory Red Beans & Rice, and a half-link of our Andouille Sausage. Be sure you bring in a big appetite to tackle this plate!

Po Boys

You can't run a Cajun restaurant without perfecting the Po Boy and we believe we've done exactly that! In case you're not familiar with this fantastic sandwich, it's a French roll containing lettuce, tomato, homemade Cajun mayo, and one of the following meats:

  • Catfish (fried or blackened)
  • Fried OystersFried
  • Shrimp
  • Andouille Sausage (This one features our homemade remoulade sauce in place of Cajun mayo.)

Catfish

Catfish is used often in Cajun cooking, plus it's delicious, so you will find it offered quite a few different ways on the menu at Shorty Pants Lounge. Catfish lovers are always very happy to discover the many options they have to choose from around here!
  • Catfish BLT
  • Catfish Po Boy
  • Catfish Dinner
  • Smothered Catfish (smothered in creamy Crawfish Etouffee!)

Shrimp & Grits

A Cajun classic! This dish contains large shrimp that are sauteed with Andouille sausage, hickory-smoked bacon, onions, and mushrooms. That mouthwatering mix is served over a heaping helping of homemade Cheddar Cheese & Jalapeno Grits.

We've also got another terrific version with our Shrimp & Grit Tacos, which place the famous jalapeno grits under shrimp, Andouille sausage, bacon, and a jalapeno lime sauce in a flour tortilla.

Crab Cakes

Our amazing handmade shrimp and lump blue crab meat cakes are an extremely popular menu item. They are rolled in our seasoned bread crumbs and topped with shrimp, then covered with a savory seafood cream sauce on the appetizer menu.

As fantastic as they are on our own, when we place them on top of a bed of fresh fettuccine for our Crab Cake Pasta entree, the taste is elevated to a whole new level!

Beignets

This is Louisiana's version of the doughnut. It makes an excellent dessert (and an equally delicious appetizer if you just can't wait!) Our housemade sweet raspberry sauce is served with this perfectly deep-fried pastry tossed in powdered sugar. Great for sharing, but you may want to keep them all to yourself!

Hurricanes

We take the classic cocktail created in New Orleans and do it justice, plus we came up with a few of our very own variations on the delicious drink. Our freshly muddled Mojitos and Cajun Bloody Marys are also amazing, but there's something special about Hurricanes and Cajun food together.

Now that we've got your mouth watering, jump in the car or the boat and head on over to our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront Cajun restaurant & bar while you still have the chance! Sure, we'll be back again next spring anxious to begin another awesome season at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina but you don't want to have to wait that long for another taste. We don't want to have to wait that long to see you here with us one more time either!

It's Warm & Cozy at Shorty Pants Lounge. Perfect for a Fall Feast!

The weather has been dreary and rainy a lot lately but we're staying cozy and warm here at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina. If you're looking for a comfy spot with a great lake view and fantastic food and drinks to enjoy, make your way on over to our waterfront bar & restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks. Here's a look at what we've got waiting for you.

Outdoor Fireplace

Some days, when the sun comes out to shine, it's still pleasant enough to dine outdoors on our lakeside deck. When that chill gets to be a bit too much, our covered patio with the outdoor fireplace allows you to get some fresh air but still stay toasty warm. Fall is football season and we've got a tv next to the fireplace so you can enjoy the outdoors and still catch the games. Space is limited though, so first come, first seated!

Indoor Dining

We've got plenty of seating inside our Lake of the Ozarks Cajun restaurant too. The indoor dining area is spacious, comfortable, and just the right temperature. Of course, if you're still kind of cold, we've got quite a few spicy options on the menu to warm you from the inside out! Have a seat at a table or belly up to the bar and get ready for an unforgettable meal.

Open For Lunch & Dinner

The 2020 season is winding down in the lake area for most places but you can still enjoy the best Cajun food at the Lake of the Ozarks 7 days a week beginning at 11:00 am. That said, our season will also be coming to an end at some point in November, so don't wait too long to get over here and order your favorites.

Perhaps you love the ever-popular Crab Cakes Pasta that smells and looks so delicious, your mouth is watering before you even take a bite! Our Crawfish-N-Shrimp Etouffee tends to do that to people too, as well as our Po Boys, Cajun Entrees, Specialty Burgers... well, it's all pretty irresistible!

Oh, and don't forget about those creative cocktails our bartenders mix so incredibly well. A Bloody Mary is an easy drink to find just about anyplace but our Cajun Bloody Mary is far superior to those others. You won't find a bigger or better selection of Hurricanes anywhere else around the lake area and you really ought to have at least one more Rum Runner or Pain in the A** before the season is over too. (Who cares if it's cold outside! Spring is a long way away!)

No matter what the weather decides to do in the next few weeks, our season is NOT over yet so get yourself on over to Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina in Osage Beach soon. It's a wonderful way to spend a day (or evening) this fall at the Lake of the Ozarks!

How Did the Po Boy Sandwich Get Its Name?

You'll find many classic Cajun dishes on the menu at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina in Osage Beach. Among these is a wonderful selection of Po Boy sandwiches.

Some may think that seems like an odd name to give a sandwich, which made us curious about how it earned that title in the first place. After reading today's blog, you'll know all the details when you join us at our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront restaurant & bar to enjoy a hearty Po Boy.

What Exactly is a Po Boy?

For those of you that may be unfamiliar with what a Po Boy sandwich is, here is the basic explanation. This delicacy is a traditional sandwich from Louisiana that normally consists of meat, often fried seafood. It is served on French bread and is usually garnished with lettuce, tomato, and mayo.

The non-seafood versions may be served with Creole mustard in place of the mayo. At Shorty Pants, the homemade condiments we use include a savory Cajun mayo and a hearty remoulade sauce.

Why the Name?

Apparently, the official origin of the name "Po Boy" is unknown, but there is a popular local theory. In 1929, during a four-month-long strike against a streetcar company, men on the picket line were given free sandwiches from a local New Orleans restaurant.

The restaurant owners, Benny and Clovis Martin, were former conductors for the streetcar company and wanted to support their former colleagues. Workers at the restaurant jokingly referred to the strikers as "poor boys" and after a while, everyone began referring to the sandwiches themselves by that name. Of course, with a Louisiana accent, the word "poor" came out as "po."

Historians find that theory suspicious. First of all, the story didn't come out until 40 years after the fact, plus prior to 1969, the Martin brothers had told people they created the po-boy for farmers, dock workers, and other "poor boys" who often ate at their original location near the French Market. Whether or not the local theory is true, it is a good story.

Po Boys at Shorty Pants

We've got a wonderful variety Po Boy sandwiches to enjoy at our Lake of the Ozarks Cajun restaurant. Each one also comes with your choice of one of our incredible side dishes.

Oyster Po Boy
Big Gulf oysters deep-fried golden brown on French bread with lettuce, tomato, and Cajun mayo.

Shrimp Po Boy
Hand-breaded Gulf shrimp, lettuce, tomato, and our house-made Cajun mayo.

Andouille Sausage Po Boy
Smoked Cajun sausage and our homemade remoulade sauce served with shredded lettuce and tomato.

Catfish Po Boy
Southern-fried catfish with our homemade Cajun mayo, lettuce, and tomato. Available blackened instead.

This classic Cajun delicacy is just one of the many you'll find on the menu at our lakeside restaurant & bar at the Lake of the Ozarks. We use fresh ingredients and trusted recipes plus rubs and spices direct from Louisiana to give our dishes an authentic Creole flavor. Come on by Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina soon for a bite and taste the deliciousness for yourself!
