Christmas Cocktails!

What's one of your favorite parts about Christmas?

Christmas cocktails, of course!

With all your friends and family around, the holiday season is the perfect opportunity to branch out and try some fun Christmas cocktails! Your friends at Shorty Pants Lounge did some research and found some promising recipes we thought you might like to try. Whether served with a meal or as a holiday treat all on their own, these delicious Christmas drinks will surely be a perfect addition to your holiday celebrations!

Candy Cane Cocktail

• 1 shot of vanilla rum
• 1 shot of white chocolate liqueur (recommended: Godiva)
• 1 shot peppermint schnapps
• Candy cane for garnish

These delicious cocktails will certainly give your holiday celebration the jumpstart you've been craving. Simply mix all ingredients (except the garnish) in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well, then strain into a martini glass. Add the garnish, and you're good to go!

Jingle Juice

• 5 cups of orange juice
• 1 cup of vodka
• 1/3 cup of orange liqueur
• 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice
• 1/2 cup of maraschino cherry juice
• Garnish of your choice (such as cherries with stems, orange or lemon slices, or fruit-flavored candy canes)

Mix together and serve over ice! Fun tip: if you leave out the vodka and the orange liqueur, you'll end up with another enticing holiday cocktail called Rudolph's Spritzer. 

Spicy Rum Punch

• 1/4 cup chopped crystallized ginger
• 2 tablespoons black peppercorns
• 6 star anise
• 4 three-inch cinnamon sticks
• 2 sixty-four oz bottles of cranberry-pineapple juice drink (e.g., Ocean Spray)
• 2 cups dark rum
• 4 twelve oz bottles of ginger beer (e.g., Stewart's)

This recipe makes twenty 3/4 cup servings, so it's perfect for entertaining a large group! All you need to do is combine the first five ingredients in a Dutch oven, bring to a boil, then remove from heat and let sit for 30 minutes. Strain the cranberry mixture to remove solids, then mix with rum and ginger beer right before serving.

11 Things You Didn't Know About Halloween

Halloween is officially upon us! Whether you're planning on passing out candy to a bunch of eager trick-or-treaters, attending a jumpin' Halloween party at a friend's house, or dressing up and showing off your costume at the best waterfront bar at the Lake of the Ozarks, Shorty Pants Lounge wants to wish you a truly spooktacular Halloween Weekend! 

In honor of this holiday, all of us at your favorite Lake of the Ozarks' restaurant did some research and put together a list of our favorite fun trivia facts about Halloween. Armed with these great bits of trivia, you'll be ready to impress everyone you know at the Halloween party!

1.   Americans spend about two billion dollars on Halloween candy every year.

2.   The tradition of wearing costumes on Halloween dates back to the ancient Celtic culture. Celts believed that spirits and ghosts traveled about the land on Halloween night. In order to avoid being recognized as humans, they began dressing in masks and other costumes.

3.   "Samhainophobia" refers to the fear of Halloween.

4.   The great magician Harry Houdini died on Halloween night in 1926.

5.   Jack-o-lanterns were originally carved out of turnips and potatoes, not pumpkins.

6.   Halloween is the second highest grossing commercial holiday in the U.S. (after Christmas).

7.   One-fourth of all the candy sold per year is for Halloween.

8.   There is actually a town in Missouri called Frankenstein (but it was established years before the monster was born).

9.   More than 35 million pounds of candy corn are made each year.

10.   October 31st is the last day of the Celtic calendar. It was originally a pagan holiday dedicated to honoring those who had died.

2015 Dates to Know

It has been another stellar summer at the Lake of the Ozarks. Beautiful weather, wonderful people, and fabulous water conditions all came together to make another incredible summer. All of us at Shorty Pants Lounge are sad to see this summer end, but it only means that summer 2015 is that much closer!
