It's Warm & Cozy at Shorty Pants Lounge. Perfect for a Fall Feast!

The weather has been dreary and rainy a lot lately but we're staying cozy and warm here at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina. If you're looking for a comfy spot with a great lake view and fantastic food and drinks to enjoy, make your way on over to our waterfront bar & restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks. Here's a look at what we've got waiting for you.

Outdoor Fireplace

Some days, when the sun comes out to shine, it's still pleasant enough to dine outdoors on our lakeside deck. When that chill gets to be a bit too much, our covered patio with the outdoor fireplace allows you to get some fresh air but still stay toasty warm. Fall is football season and we've got a tv next to the fireplace so you can enjoy the outdoors and still catch the games. Space is limited though, so first come, first seated!

Indoor Dining

We've got plenty of seating inside our Lake of the Ozarks Cajun restaurant too. The indoor dining area is spacious, comfortable, and just the right temperature. Of course, if you're still kind of cold, we've got quite a few spicy options on the menu to warm you from the inside out! Have a seat at a table or belly up to the bar and get ready for an unforgettable meal.

Open For Lunch & Dinner

The 2020 season is winding down in the lake area for most places but you can still enjoy the best Cajun food at the Lake of the Ozarks 7 days a week beginning at 11:00 am. That said, our season will also be coming to an end at some point in November, so don't wait too long to get over here and order your favorites.

Perhaps you love the ever-popular Crab Cakes Pasta that smells and looks so delicious, your mouth is watering before you even take a bite! Our Crawfish-N-Shrimp Etouffee tends to do that to people too, as well as our Po Boys, Cajun Entrees, Specialty Burgers... well, it's all pretty irresistible!

Oh, and don't forget about those creative cocktails our bartenders mix so incredibly well. A Bloody Mary is an easy drink to find just about anyplace but our Cajun Bloody Mary is far superior to those others. You won't find a bigger or better selection of Hurricanes anywhere else around the lake area and you really ought to have at least one more Rum Runner or Pain in the A** before the season is over too. (Who cares if it's cold outside! Spring is a long way away!)

No matter what the weather decides to do in the next few weeks, our season is NOT over yet so get yourself on over to Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina in Osage Beach soon. It's a wonderful way to spend a day (or evening) this fall at the Lake of the Ozarks!

Glass House Reviews

"Fun Labor Day Weekend
Perfect location to have a great time at the lake! Plenty of space inside the house, with a fun patio for outside entertainment. Walking distance to the dock/bar/restaurant. We had a great time!" ~Christa E, Sept. 2020

"Weekend in the Glass House  My friends and I really enjoyed our stay... the beds were comfortable, easy access, very clean, the kitchen was fully equipped. We did learn the grill is a gas grill, so no need for charcoal. The grocery store was about 15 minutes away... and make sure to book your boat in advance, Bombay sells out fast. Nice lake view, I would stay again...." ~Sade A, Sept. 2020

"What an AMAZING home!!!  Our family of five absolutely LOVED this home. The location is prime, close to just about anything you’d do in the Ozarks. The house is immaculate. The marina (no more than 100 ft away) was so helpful in getting us a boat to rent and a slip to put it in for a few days. This rental allowed us to feel like we were home while on vacation. Will definitely stay here again! Thanks for everything, Ashley!" ~Jesse Q, Aug. 2020

The Red House

Next door to the Glass House, our Red House also contains all the comforts of home needed to enjoy a relaxing stay plus the same gorgeous lake views. This property is larger at 3,400 square feet of living space and has two 44-foot decks.

There are 5 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, and this house can accommodate up to 16 guests. There is also an apartment-like space detached from the house that we call the "Love Shack." Click here to learn more about the Red House.

~Vickie B, Sept. 2020

"Bachelor Party
I had my bachelor party here with 15 friends and family members and it was perfect. The house was very clean and in a great location with the lake and dock right behind the house. The bar next door also had really good food and played live music each night."
~Levi B, Aug. 2020

"Amazing House
The house was so beautiful. It is perfect for a bigger group with even more room to spread out. The house is just so perfect as it is close to the docks and shorty pants bar and grill. Ashley, the house manager, was amazing and helped 24/7 with questions and anything we needed. She was so sweet and happy she was in charge of us. Rent this house!"
~Lisa S, July 2020

How Did the Po Boy Sandwich Get Its Name?

You'll find many classic Cajun dishes on the menu at Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina in Osage Beach. Among these is a wonderful selection of Po Boy sandwiches.

Some may think that seems like an odd name to give a sandwich, which made us curious about how it earned that title in the first place. After reading today's blog, you'll know all the details when you join us at our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront restaurant & bar to enjoy a hearty Po Boy.

What Exactly is a Po Boy?

For those of you that may be unfamiliar with what a Po Boy sandwich is, here is the basic explanation. This delicacy is a traditional sandwich from Louisiana that normally consists of meat, often fried seafood. It is served on French bread and is usually garnished with lettuce, tomato, and mayo.

The non-seafood versions may be served with Creole mustard in place of the mayo. At Shorty Pants, the homemade condiments we use include a savory Cajun mayo and a hearty remoulade sauce.

Why the Name?

Apparently, the official origin of the name "Po Boy" is unknown, but there is a popular local theory. In 1929, during a four-month-long strike against a streetcar company, men on the picket line were given free sandwiches from a local New Orleans restaurant.

The restaurant owners, Benny and Clovis Martin, were former conductors for the streetcar company and wanted to support their former colleagues. Workers at the restaurant jokingly referred to the strikers as "poor boys" and after a while, everyone began referring to the sandwiches themselves by that name. Of course, with a Louisiana accent, the word "poor" came out as "po."

Historians find that theory suspicious. First of all, the story didn't come out until 40 years after the fact, plus prior to 1969, the Martin brothers had told people they created the po-boy for farmers, dock workers, and other "poor boys" who often ate at their original location near the French Market. Whether or not the local theory is true, it is a good story.

We've got a wonderful variety Po Boy sandwiches to enjoy at our Lake of the Ozarks Cajun restaurant. Each one also comes with your choice of one of our incredible side dishes.

Oyster Po Boy
Big Gulf oysters deep-fried golden brown on French bread with lettuce, tomato, and Cajun mayo.

Shrimp Po Boy

Come on by Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina soon for a bite and taste the deliciousness for yourself!
